Task Summary :
In this task, you will select an organisation to use as a research case study throughout your Capstone Subject. Applying your skills and knowledge of Business Information Solutions, you will create a Feasibility Report for the organisation which will then be progressed through to a Consultative Report in Assessment 2 and your presentation of the final solution in Assessment 3.

This task requires you to research, analyse, and evaluate your selected organisation’s requirements in alignment with their strategic goals and vision, and make recommendations that will help them to achieve these goals.

Your Learning Facilitator will assist you with your choice of organisation to ensure it is appropriate to support your learning needs.

Context :
As an information system professional, a feasibility study is your essential first step in the software development life cycle. It should identify and manage any associated risks to ensure the success of
the project and ultimately support the goals and vision of the organisation.

This assessment has been designed to align with industry best practice and enables you to apply the
knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout your Bachelor of Business Information Systems
(BBIS) course, and to prepare you for a successful career in the industry.

By focusing on an existing organisation, you will examine real-world challenges, apply the knowledge
you have gained from this course and synthesise information from multiple research sources to arrive at a recommendation which solves the organisation’s challenge. This aligns to what will be expected of you in professional practice.

Task Instructions :
This Feasibility Report forms the foundation for Assessment 2, the Consultative Report and Assessment 3, the Final Presentation.
In the Feasibility Report you will be required to:
a) Identify and describe the organisation which you have selected for your independent research and the industry in which they operate. Please ensure that your organisation has been approved by your Learning Facilitator.
b) Ascertain by research the problem which you will address for this organisation and describe this problem clearly in your report. The combination of the organisation and the selected problem together form the topic for this assignment.
c) Undertake a brief literature review of valid and reliable sources that you have used to support your research.
d) Outline your research design and research methods and the data sources that you intend to use for your project.
e) A short project plan (timeline) on how you intend to develop your report.

To complete this assessment task, you must:

1.Review your subject notes to establish the relevant area of investigation that applies to the case.

2.Re-read any relevant readings that have been recommended for the subject.

3.Perform additional research and investigation and ensure that you have at least fifteen sources which will add value to your report in the relevant area of investigation.

4.Plan how you will structure your ideas for your report and write a report plan before you start writing.

Structure and Format :
Individually (1500 word) or in your group (2500 words) write a Feasibility Report following the structure outlined below:

Title page :
The report must include a title page with the subject code and subject title, assessment title, all student’s names and student numbers in the group (if applicable) and the Learning Facilitator’s name.

Executive summary :
While this report is brief – it will require an executive summary of no more than 200 words. This does not form part of the overall word count.
a. The organisation upon which you will focus.
b. The industry in which they operate.
c. The strategic goals and vision of your organisation.
d. The problems faced by your organisation.

Literature review :
A literature review section where you outline the fifteen (or more) valid and reliable sources that you have consulted to support your research. Ensuring that in-text references correspond with your reference list will be vital.

Research :
A research section where you will outline your research design and the research methods which you intend to use, and the data sources which you will consult.

Timeline :
A timeline section which will contain a short project plan including a Gantt Chart outlining how you will develop your project.

Conclusion :
Your last section will titled conclusion and should outline your next steps and potential solution areas which have emerged from your preliminary research that you are considering pursuing further in your consultative report.

Format :
The report should use font Arial or Calibri 11 point, should be line spaced at 1.5 for ease of reading and page numbers on the bottom of each page. If diagrams or tables are used, due attention should be given to pagination to avoid loss of meaning and continuity by unnecessarily splitting information over two pages. Diagrams must carry the appropriate captioning.
