Introduction :
Lifestyle’ factors and behaviours, including low levels of physical activity, are well known risk factors for a range of health problems. In this essay, you will consider physical activity in a specific population group, and consider the role of social capital in promoting physical activity. The essay is due in week 8 (end of module 4).

For this Essay:
1) Describe and explain patterns in physical activity

Choose a specific population group from one of the following:
o Young Indigenous people (under 25)
o Older Culturally and Linguistically diverse Australians
o Single mothers
o Rural men

Review and present evidence relating to levels of physical activity for this population group.

Explain how these patterns of physical activity among this group are socially determined. Refer to issues of gender and/or cultural background in your explanation.

2) Discuss the role of social capital in promoting physical activity
Describe the concept of social capital, and identify how it is linked to other social determinants of health for your chosen population group.

Analyse whether social capital may promote or hinder physical activity among this population group.
