Assessment 2 will assess your interviewing and academic writing skills in relation to nursing.
There are two parts to this assessment:
NUM1102 Assignment 2 Communication For Nurses And Midwives AU.

1.Health assessment interview :
Conduct and record a patient assessment interview. This interview serves two purposes:
• It allows you to demonstrate and then analyse your interviewing skills for Assessment 2; and
• It forms the basis of part 2 of your assignment.

The video is due Friday, week 8 at 5PM.
The video will be checked and feedback will be provided if any problems have occurred with submission. Part 1 (video) and Part 2 (interview) will both be marked in week 11.

NB – for the purposes of this interview, your patient has injured their ankle playing sport.

NBB You must be dressed / present yourself professionally for this video, i.e., in uniform or in smart dark shirt (not T-shirt).

Instructions :
• You will conduct, document and record a video of a health assessment interview.
o On campus students will complete this during the tutorial in week 7.
o Off campus students will complete this at home in week 7.
o The health assessment form is located in the week 5 learning material folder.
• The interview should be approximately six (6) minutes long (this can be shorter if you have conduced all the assessment). This will give you enough material to analyse for Part 2 of your assessment.
• You are ONLY to complete Section A of the Health Assessment Form (HAF) up until and including the question related to religion and culture.
o This form is located in the week 5 learning material folder.
• You will each need to bring/provide a recording device (such as iPad, laptop or smart phone)which has the capability to record the video.
• Ensure you have had a trial run before you attend your tutorial session and make sure that you have looked in the Week 5 module folder at the link titled “Recording video instruction sheet”.

What parts of the HAF do I need to complete for the video?
• Section A of the HAF needs to be completed up until and including the questions related to religion and culture. This is the first page of the HAF only (after the title page). This form can be found in the week 5 learning material folder.
• Confidentiality needs to be maintained – patient names and details must be fictitious.
• Comprehensive data must be recorded.
• Legible writing in blue or black ink – no pencil or white out.
• Use bullet point form and/or short sentences. It must be clear as to what question has been asked from the answer recorded.

2.Analysis of the interview
Part 2 is due before Week 11, Sunday,

Analysis of Interview
You need to analyse your recorded interview in written format in terms of:

• how empathy was displayed during the interaction.
Follow the steps below to guide your essay formation.

Introduction :
The introduction needs to highlight what the assignment is about.
Ensure you:

• Use correct introduction structure (introduce topic, provide context/significance of topic, purpose of paper and structure outlining what is to follow).
• State in the introduction that the information is fictitious to ensure confidentiality.
• Use accurate content and terminology.

Empathy :
Describe the theory in relation to Empathy.
1.Write a descriptive paragraph from the literature about the theory and recommendations for best practice relating to empathy (what it is how it is defined how it is demonstrated why it is important etc.). Remember to reference this section.

2.Select a section from the recorded interview that you think best shows where you might have demonstrated empathy towards your interviewee (patient). You only need to choose one example.

Provide several lines from the section to show the marker exactly which section you are referring to (+ the time the section stated). Write the quote from the video word for word :
• Interviewer ‘What you said’
• Patient ‘What they said’
• Interviewer ‘What you said’
• Patient ‘What they said’ (6.23)

You only need to provide enough to show where the section is. No more than six quotes as this will be included in your word count.

3.Discuss why empathy was important at this point in your video example, how you demonstrated it and or how it might have been improved. Your discussion must be supported with evidence from the literature. Ideally, you should be using the literature you have already provided in step one to support your discussion in this section.

Conclusion :
Your conclusion must state what the assignment was about and identify the main issues and recommendations. The conclusion should not introduce any new material and should not contain
references.

References
Students must follow the ECU referencing guide – APA 7th Edition.
A minimum of 8 journal articles and two books that are no more than 5 years old should be used to support your essay. Dictionaries and lecture notes are not acceptable references.

Appendix
Include a copy of the completed HAF (health assessment form) at the end of the assignment – after the reference list. You need to scan and paste this at the end of the assessment (or if you do not have access to scanning, a photograph is acceptable BUT it must be large enough for markers to read).

Writing skills :
