Management is a multifaceted concept that is important to the success of any organisation. Management can be defined as the process of planning, making decisions, organising, leading, motivating, and controlling an organization’s financial,physical, human, and information resources in order to effectively achieve its objectives. When an organisation incorporates managerial concepts, its overall performance has the potential to improve. While competency is vital, employee performance is not simply defined by their skill level. Employee experience, workplace circumstances, colleagues, managers, and other factors all influence performance. A mediocre or ineffectual manager can also have an effect on an
employee’s opinion of the company’s broader vision and values, potentially resulting in unhappiness and high staff turnover, resulting in additional negative cost to the organisation. The objective of this review is to assess the four management concepts POLC (planning, organisation, leading and control) and how these concepts can be applied to improve organisational performance.
2.Discussion: Briefly explain the concepts that you chose from the textbook
chapters for example: under planning you could look at planning tools such as PESTEL (political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors); under organising you could look at job design; under leading you could look at specific motivation theories such as expectancy theory; and under controlling you could look at bench marking. Remember to drill down to a lower level and not just discuss POLC (planning, organising, leading, and controlling). Then describe how chosen management concepts/strategies/techniques could improve organisational
performance, providing examples from an organisation that you are familiar with to show how each concept can be applied. Paragraphs will provide supporting evidence/in-text references to support claims.
In conclusion, there are a variety of managerial concepts, techniques, and
approaches in use today all over the world that enable an organisation to work towards a unified, productive work environment. The necessity of communication,building purposeful and effective managers and setting goals for employees to work towards is vital to an organization’s success. It would be difficult to implement new strategies to modify situations and environments to enhance organisational performance without the use of managerial concepts.

- Where possible, provide some examples from an organisation that you are familiar with. These can be drawn from your own experience or best practice examples from your research. For confidentiality reasons, you may change the name of the organisation and explain this in the introduction.
- This assignment should be written as an essay. Avoid the use of subheadings.
