Description / Requirements
This assignment consists of 2 parts based on client information contained in the attached Client Data Collection form and Living Expenses worksheet. The SOA assignment is required to be completed individually. The SOA document is the main regulatory document required to be provided to the client. Whilst it needs to satisfy all regulatory requirements, presentation style is important to ensure that the client understands and engages with the document. The SOA presentation is also a critical part of the advice process as this is where you have the opportunity to build your relationship with the client and explain your recommendations in in a simple but clear and effective manner. For many clients, the SOA presentation will be the key component in ensuring whether they decide to accept your recommendations and build a long-term relationship with you.

You are required to use XPLAN (industry-based software) to complete certain parts / all of the SOA. You will be provided with individual log-in details sent through your Deakin email address. If you have any log-in problems, please contact the unit chair as soon as possible.
Details will be provided on a XPLAN zoom training session that we will organise to help you familiarise yourself with the software. It is important that you try and attend where possible.

PART A – Written presentation requirements.
- Prepare a comprehensive SOA to industry standards based on the client scenario provided.
- The SOA should be submitted electronically as two documents:
a. The first document is the Client Fact Finder which must be created in X PLAN. Other aspects of this SOA are also able to be completed using X PLAN if you wish but is not mandatory.
b. The second document is your SOA which will be in the form of a Word document. Where Excel data is used within this Word document it should be pasted into the document using– Paste Special/Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object. Appendices to the SOA are permitted. - The SOA should be directed to the clients, John and Margaret, in the first person.
- All pages must have a footer which includes the student ID and page numbers e.g. page 4 of 8.
- All text based/Word information should in a 12 point Calibri font with a minimum line spacing of 1.15. The assignment should have standard left and right and top and bottom margins.
- Recommendations must be made on the basis of real products and real prices that you have researched. Finding accurate insurance quotes can be difficult and it is strongly recommended that you use X Plan Risk Researcher to assist with this task. Finding suitable superannuation products on the web is less difficult nonetheless the X Plan Wealth Solver may assist with this task.
- You can assume that the client has been provided with a Financial Services Guide (FSG) and the relevant Product Disclosure Statement(PDS). Where you recommend a product/service for which a PDS is available on the web you should reference the relevant URL.
- All financial modelling should be done in real terms and the impact of modelling in real terms needs to be made clear to the couple.
- The SOA is limited to 4,000 words / 30 pages in length.
a. The word count excludes the Client Fact Finder and any spreadsheets and tables.
b. The page count includes all pages except the Client Fact Finder. - Students will be penalised where standard wording from templates such as X PLAN are simply copied into their SOA.
PART B – SOA presentation requirements
- You are required to provide a video presentation of the findings of your Statement of Advice prepared in Part A above. The main focus of this assessment piece will be on your communication and presentation skills rather than the technical content
- The video presentation of the SOA is limited in time to no more than 20 minutes. need to present your SOA as if you were presenting the findings directly to the client – John /Margaret.
- It is permitted / recommended that you use power point slides to support your oral presentation
- You are required to upload an electronic copy of your video via CloudDeakin.
- It is a requirement that we are able to see you presenting your video not just hear the presentation so it will be important to have both the video and audio on when recording your presentation. See below.
Some guidance and advice to ensure the successful recording of your SOA video presentation:
1.your video presentation should be approximately 20 minutes in length. After 25 minutes,the video will be tuned off.
2.You may use a video recording application of your choice, but please note that the evaluation of your submission will also take into consideration the framing, image, and audio quality of your video presentation. Please take this into consideration when determining an appropriate application.
It is highly recommended that you use Kaltura Capture to record your video presentation although you are able to use other formats that you have some expertise in. Below is some links on firstly how to set up Kaltura Capture and secondly user guides on how to use Kaltura and to upload your videos into Deakin Air.
3.Kaltura Capture allows for both an audio and visual recording of your presentation which is required for this assessment
4.Always do a small test recording when you first start! It will not be ideal for you to have to record the presentation again if something does not turn out as you expect.
5.Once you have completed your video, you will need to upload your recorded video presentation to Deakin Air prior to submitting. Please Do
Not upload your source video file (eg .mp4) directly to the assessment drop box – these files are often large and difficult to upload for markers to work with.
6.Once in Deakin Air, you will be required to publish your video file as ‘Unlisted’, otherwise unit staff will not be able to view the submission for marking when you transfer to the assignment drop box. To submit your video presentation, paste the URL for your Deakin Air video in the comments section of the assessment drop box.
In My Media, click on your presentation. Underneath the video, click on Actions and then Publish. Tick the Unlisted box and then Save.
Above the orange banner on the same page, click on Share and the URL for your video will appear which you can then copy and paste to the assignment drop box.
7.Please note that the time required for rendering of your video presentation and subsequent upload to Deakin Air can be quite lengthy, depending on the speed of your computer and internet connection. You are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for this process, prior to the submission deadline.
Submission Instructions
You must keep a backup copy of every assignment you submit, until the marked assignment has been returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your assignments is misplaced, you will need to submit your backup copy.
Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting collusion and/or plagiarism.
When you are required to submit an assignment through your CloudDeakin unit site, you will receive an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that you can see your assignment in the Submissions view of the Assignment drop box folder after upload, and check for, and keep, the email receipt for the submission.
Notes
Penalties for late submission: The following marking penalties will apply if you submit an assessment task after the due date without an approved extension: 5% will be deducted from available marks for each day up to five days, and work that is submitted more than five days after the due date will not be marked. You will receive 0% for the task. ‘Day’ means working day
for paper submissions and calendar day for electronic submissions. The Unit Chair may refuse to accept a late submission where it is unreasonable or impracticable to assess the task after the due date.
