Assessment Task 3 – Theory-practice integration
The objective of this assignment is to enable you to demonstrate your competence in explicitly integrating local government principles and practices as discussed in this subject, to your professional practice.The assignment takes the form of a Professional Report which has been commissioned by the council and which you will submit to the General Manager of your council. It should be around 4,000 words in length. Structure it as follows:

1. Briefly describe your LGA your council your work unit and your role.
2. Discuss the performance of your work unit in TWO of the following aspects of local government practice:

1.Promoting networked and participatory local governance with regard to the work units key areas of operation
2.Providing tailored local services with regard to the work unit’s key areas of operation
3.Promoting social justice in the LGA

4.Participating in State wide local government reform with regard to the work unit’s key areas of operation
5. Contributing to metropolitan or regional governance with regard to the work units key areas of operation.

3. Put forward innovative, yet practical and realistic, ways through which you might build your own and your work unit’s capacity to address the issues you have raised about its performance.

Please also ensure that your discussion of concepts (such as networked and participatory local governance tailored local services, local government reform social justice and/or urban regeneration) is underpinned by reference to the reading you have done in this subject.
