There is one task, one project and one Professional Practice Checklist to be completed by the student during placement. These will be supplemented by the Observer’s Checklist completed by the workplace supervisor. Collectively they provide evidence for the assessment of:
1.The Workplace Task will require input from the placement supervisor or observer.
2.The Workplace Project must be completed independently by the student but may require assistance from the placement supervisor or observer in accessing resources.
3.Input from supervisor or observer to completion of projects is minimal, however details of the
project requirements are included in the Observer’s Checklist to ensure placement supervisors
are aware of the full extent of assessments to be completed by the student while on placement.
4.The final task is to complete the Professional Practice Checklist. This checklist is based on performance against specific criteria over the duration of the placement.

About this tool :-
This tool has been developed to assess the competency of students completing the Diploma of Early childhood education and Care in the workplace.The Trainer/Assessor is responsible for collecting evidence of your competence to perform the tasks described in the units of competence that make up the qualification.This Self-Assessment Checklist forms part of that evidence.
As the candidate/student, you are required to use this checklist to complete a series of tasks with the support of your observer, and document your participation in these activities by using the checklist and adding comments about your activities.

Part 1
Record your name and name of workplace on the following page.
Part 2
The Workplace Tasks must be completed while on placement, with the input and co-operation of the placement supervisor. For each of the Workplace Tasks record:
1. your name against Student name
2. date of assessment
3. observer’s name
4.place a tick in the columns ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ as appropriate against each requirement of the task. If your response is ‘No’ please add a comment to clarify
5.Complete any further comments you may have about your completion of the task that you feel would be beneficial for the assessor to know.
The Workplace Tasks may also require you to submit responses to knowledge questions with your placement documentation.
Part 3
The Workplace Projects must be completed independently by you while on placement.They may require support from the placement supervisor to access resources required. You should discuss the particular focus of each project with the supervisor to ensure maximum benefit for both yourself and the workplace.
For each of the Projects record a tick in the column to acknowledge that you had access to the required resources, and also any other comments required. The task cannot be completed until required resources are available.
Part 4
The Professional Practice Checklist must be completed by you throughout the placement and must be checked by the placement supervisor or observer who will then complete their Observer’s Checklist.
Part 5
Submit completed document and any specified evidence to your assessor.Important note: In order to maintain client confidentiality please ensure that documentation submitted for assessment purposes has had all client personal details blacked out.
Please ensure that the placement supervisor or observer completes the Observer’s Checklist and submits it to the assessor using the authorised email address that was provided in the Workplace Agreement.
Please note Observer’s Checklists forwarded from an unauthorised email address will not be accepted.

Instructions for activity :-
You are required to:
Collect and document observations of at least three (3) different children at your practicum service, over time and in a variety of spaces.
1.You must obtain permission from your workplace supervisor and the children’s parents prior to commencing this task. Use the Permission form provided.
2.Prior to commencing you must read through and discuss all relevant policies and procedures with your Workplace Supervisor
Your observations for each child must cover the following:
1.Children’s behaviour and learning
2. Children’s play preferences
3. Strengths
4. Interests
5. Relationships
Ensure you demonstrate inclusive assessment practices, including the voices of educators, children, peers, families and other professionals where possible.
You are required to complete five (5) observations on each child, one for each EYLF outcome:
Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity
Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators
Use a variety of approaches to observation methods, at least three different styles e.g. anecdotal, learning story, example of work with conversation recorded and on.
