Task 2– Observing and Documenting Behaviour:
For this task you will be taking observations of a child to help to understand and support their behaviour.
 It will take approx. 3 weeks to complete this task. You will be observing, documenting, developing strategies and reviewing them.

Part A: Workplace supervisor approval

  • Before you start you must discuss this task with your workplace supervisor so they can guide and support your work.
  • With your supervisor, select 1 child that you will observe and implement an approved support plan for. Do not identify the child in any of your work or observations – parent permission is therefore not required. If your service requires this, please contact your facilitator.
  • Your workplace supervisor will need to complete the below approval PRIOR to you commencing this task.

Part B: Observations

  • You are required to take 4 separate observations of the child.
  • Use a minimum of 2 observation styles (examples: running records, anecdotal, time and event sampling).
  • Ensure you use non-judge mental language.
  • Ensure you date each observation including year.
  • Complete your 4 observations in the space provided below. If you require additional space, please attach additional documents to your assignment submission ensuring you clearly label these.

Part C: Observation review and strategy implementation

The meeting should take between 30 minutes to an hour. To prepare for the meeting you will need to:

  • Provide a copy of your completed work as this will support the team in continuing to implement the personalised support plan for this child (as required).
