Task 2: Practical Application Task Implementation of a Workplace Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS)
A WHSMS is a system used by organisations to manage their WHS obligations. It provides a proactive and systematic approach to ensure that hazards are eliminated or, so far as reasonably practicable, risks are minimised. Task 2 is made up of the following:

The requirements are:
Contribution to Consultation and Participation processes
Revising a procedure for Return to Work and Injury Management.
Planning for implementation of this procedure
Review following implementation.
2.2: WHSMS Planning, Implementing, Reviewing – Safe Systems of Work
The requirements are:
Contribution to Consultation and Participation processes
Hazard Identification
Identifying control measures
Implementing the control measures
Evaluating the effectiveness of the control measures
You may answer the questions using your own workplace or a workplace you have access to.
Task title:
2.1 WHSMS Planning,Implementing,Reviewing –RTW and Injury Management
Task requirements/Questions:
Your employer has asked you to be involved in the implementation of their current Company Procedure related to Return to Work and Injury Management.
Staff do not seem to be familiar with this Procedure and therefore your role will be to assist in the planning, implementing and review ( this is to be taken on as though you are rolling this out to the staff for the first time.)
For this task you can use an existing Return to Work and Injury Management procedure for your organisation
you can choose to use the Return to Work and Injury Management procedure provided in Appendix A
Complete each of the following:
a) Review your organisation’s Return to Work and Injury Management procedure or the Return to Work and Injury Management procedure in Appendix A for sufficiency,accuracy, legislative compliance and readability. Identify any gaps, areas for improvement.
NOTE: if using the provided procedure in Appendix A some missing steps are:
It does not address the responsibilities of an Injured Worker’s
Managers and Supervisors
It does not address the responsibilities of co-workers
It doesn’t say how long the employer has to lodge the claim after receiving the worker’s injury claim form.
It doesn’t address steps to be taken if the Worker is unable to return
It does not reference an Issue Resolution process
b) Identify and name who you would consult / communicate with
to review this procedure. (include at least 2 individuals)
c) Explain why you would involve those individuals

d) Consult with the identified individuals and provide details of each of the following points:
How did you involve them in the review of the procedure?
List any feedback you received and make applicable changes to the Return to Work and Injury Management procedure

Include a copy of the revised procedure following consultation – part d) of this task
e) Develop and document an Implementation Plan for the Return to Work and Injury Management procedure.

2.2 WHSMS Planning, Implementing,Reviewing –Safe Systems of Work
“‘Safe Systems of Work’ refers to a systematic examination of a task in order to identify all the hazards. It defines safe methods to ensure that hazards are eliminated or, where this is not possible, risks are minimised”
Your employer has asked you to examine hazardous work tasks performed in your organisation and develop and implement processes which:
Identify all the hazards related to the tasks
Identify control measures which will eliminate or, where this is not possible, minimise the risks so far as is reasonably practicable
Implement the control measures
Evaluate the effectiveness of the control measures
Complete each of the following tasks:
a) Choose two (2) Hazardous work tasks performed in your organisation.
For each task Explain:
What the task is and,
Why you consider it to be hazardous and,
What you feel the hazards associated with the task are
Your risk assessment of each of the hazards and,

2.Explain each person’s and your duties / responsibilities in relation to Consultation and Risk Management
3.Ask for their feedback on your findings (part a)
4.Identify and agree on control measures
5.Discuss the best approach for implementing the control measures
