Web Sights is a small website development company that has been operating successfully for five years. It currently has five staff members, all of whom have worked in the company since it began.

They provide a one stop shop for simple starter websites: from a single page to 20 pages.

Web Sights also provide logo design, web design and content production.

The bulk of their clients have been small to medium-sized retail businesses.

The company’s board recently decided that the time is ripe for Web Sights to develop some new concepts for products,programs, processes or services.

1.Prepare for a meeting.
Use the internet to look for some ideas and concepts that Web Sights could use.

You will be meeting with some of the company’s Management Team to brainstorm ideas, and it is important that you bring some ideas to the meeting to spark the discussions.

Start by looking for needs that the company may have, or opportunities that you see in the market, then use the meeting to find innovative ways to address these.

For instance, you could identify gaps in the company’s current range of products,finding opportunities that are not necessarily obvious.

Determine also whether competitors are currently filling any gaps that you identify.

Research techniques that can be used for generating creative ideas and solutions,and for translating these ideas into workable concepts.

Determine what techniques you will use during the meeting. Brainstorming is one technique that would be appropriate in this situation, but try others, such as creating a mind map or using lateral thinking.

Write a short (half a page to one page) report that includes each of the points above.

Use the Meeting Preparation Report Template to guide your work.

2.Conduct a meeting.
The objective of the meeting is to facilitate a creative thinking session with the Management Team, looking at innovative and creative concepts for the company’s development.

You will be facilitating the meeting, and keep in mind that this is expected to be a collaborative process, so make sure that all team members are given the opportunity to contribute.

Begin by introducing the context in which concepts are going to be developed.

Then introduce the needs or concepts that you have recorded in activity 1.

You are required to use a range of creative techniques to generate innovative and creative approaches to each of your suggestions. The suggested approaches could lead to new ideas and concepts, so be prepared to take the discussion in any direction that is presented.

After about 15 minutes of discussion, the group should settle on five ideas or concepts that you should develop further.

For each of these, you should discuss:
1. Their suitability for the purpose
2. Their feasibility
3. Their commercial potential and what would be required for commercialisation.
4. Any relevant social, ethical or environmental issues

The group should also try to identify factors that could have an impact on how each of them are developed.
